Sharon Shadowlands lived in Krezk, Barovia with her husband,
Conrad and had two
sons, Leif and Connor, who died in infancy. As a miner,
Conrad earned a meager living, but the Shadowlands family lived no better or
worse than most Barovian peasants. Despite their own hardships, Sharon did
her best to volunteer her time with those less fortunate than her family.
After she died in a house fire in 724, Leif found that there was more to his
mother than a compassionate family woman. In a chest hidden in the attic, she
had kept some small reminders of her secret past: A strange book in the
sparkling runes of an unknown language, a plain white gown, a broken wooden
and metal tool, and a small velvet-lined mahogany box, holding a beautiful
silver goblet, studded with pearls.
Leif's father could only tell him that he and Sharon had fled the faraway land
of Nidala, for reasons that she never told him. Leif set out to learn the
truth and soon discovered a pin in the box bearing the holy symbol of Belenus.
Leif now searches for a way to get to his parents' homeland, and for
information about this mysterious religion. So far, the only signs of the
faith's followers point to some troubling history, a woman from centuries past
with a habit of killing in Belenus's name. What could possibly link the
saintly Mrs. Shadowlands to such a fanatic remains to be seen.
